County moves to dissolve six inactive special‑purpose tax districts; public hearing set

Treasury staff told the council the county oversees about a dozen special‑purpose tax districts with no recent activity or commissioners and recommended dissolving them to simplify administration. Six districts were presented for first reading and title only. Staff said they mailed roughly 1,000 letters to affected residents notifying them of the dissolution process and the Jan. 6 public hearing for third reading.
Staff reported three of the listed districts had no funds (Puckett’s Ferry; Summit Place; Coral Creek), two had token balances (Pinehurst $40.13; Stony Point $20.43) and one (Kimbrook) held $2,474.66. The presenter said residents who want to preserve their district’s funds must nominate commissioners to the county so the district can spend the money; if no action is taken and funds remain unused for 365 days after dissolution, staff will return to council with nonprofit options for distributing the remaining funds, as has been done previously.
All six dissolution ordinances (items B–G) were read for the first time and will return for public hearing and final action in January.
