Knox County mayor announces summer outreach for Unified Development Ordinance

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs announced that the county will begin public outreach this summer on a proposed Unified Development Ordinance, or UDO, the final phase of the county’s Advance Knox planning process.
Jacobs said the Advance Knox process gathered resident input on what people "love about Knox County," and staff used that feedback to develop a shared vision balancing community character, conservation and preservation with new growth. "This vision became the comprehensive land use and transportation plan," he said, adding that the plan is intended to guide land use policies and transportation planning "for the next 20 years."
The mayor described the UDO as a single, cohesive document that will "combine zoning, street standards, subdivision regulations, building codes, and stormwater regulations." He said the goal is to provide clear regulations and "both developers and the public with our community's expectations and guidelines in order to ensure our vision."
Officials will announce the first round of outreach dates later this summer. Residents can find the full project timeline, submit comments and sign up for a project newsletter at advanceknox.org. Jacobs said the county also will share information on its social media platforms and encouraged public participation throughout the process.
The announcement concluded with Jacobs thanking listeners and urging continued engagement as the UDO is developed.
