Commission approves nine budget amendments, including emergency HVAC for juvenile detention center

Madison County commissioners approved nine budget amendments during their Nov. 17 meeting, covering county operational needs and school system grants.
Commissioner Alexander reported six county amendments and three from the school system. The county-side items included an emergency purchase of an HVAC unit for the juvenile detention center for $10,850, information-technology funding of $69,000 for cybersecurity monitoring, a $5,298.34 refund from a vendor (Konica Minolta), sheriff’s department reimbursements totaling $74,968.51 for salaries and overtime, $13,007.75 for sheriff capital projects from vehicle-sale proceeds, and an EMA disaster-relief and hazmat cleanup item of $9,011.24.
On the school side, commissioners approved a Toyota grant amendment of $68,867.89 to move fiscal-year funds to 2026; a special-education pre-K grant for $195,003.83; and a public-school security grant of $360,569.58 to carry fiscal-year 2025 funds to 2026.
Commissioner Alexander presented the committee recommendations and the commission approved the items by voice vote. Commissioner Tippett moved to consider the five county items together; the motion was seconded and the package passed. The board recorded unanimous voice approval for the listed amendments.
