Crandall said she volunteers much of this work for nonprofits and emphasized that a thorough diagnostic can reveal purchasing and accounting adjustments rather than simple across‑the‑board cuts.
Commissioners discussed committee membership, recommending two commissioners on the panel plus local business and accounting expertise; one commissioner suggested inviting Susan Beeman from Minnehaha County to present their long‑running program as an example. The commission approved moving forward with the committee and said it would identify members and keep Crandall in mind as a resource.
No formal budget cuts or policy changes were adopted at the meeting; commissioners said the committee will present recommendations for consideration during the 2026–2027 budgeting cycle.
