Veterans recognition events set for Nov. 7–8 in Jackson; Parker’s Crossroads honor guard to receive van donation

Organizers announced two veterans events the first week of November: a Veterans Grama recognition program on Friday, Nov. 7, at Englewood Baptist Church beginning about 6:30 p.m., and a downtown Veterans Parade on Saturday, Nov. 8, that will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Larry Newsome, who has helped organize the annual programs for more than a decade, said the recognition program will include a guest speaker — retired Major General Tommy Baker, commissioner of Tennessee Vet Services — a color guard ceremony and a missing‑man table. "It's intended to attract veterans and their families from across this region," Newsome said.
The parade route will travel downtown (Main, Liberty and adjacent streets) with participant staging at 9:00 a.m., Newsome said. He said Ford Motor Company (identified on-air as Blue Oval) donated a van to the Parker's Crossroads Honor Guard; the van will be dedicated after the parade and dignitaries from Detroit will attend.
Newsome noted a possible military flyover (likely a Black Hawk) but said the exact aircraft was not yet confirmed. Organizers asked potential participants to register in advance (forms available at the DoubleTree through Mary Ross) and said the parade is free to enter.
Hosts encouraged veterans and residents to attend both the recognition program and the parade.
