Melody Midel, regional stormwater manager for the Lower Rio Grande Valley stormwater task force, told the Willacy County Commissioners Court the memorandum of agreement would fund a regional watershed coordinator and support multi‑county engineering, environmental and economic development initiatives.

Midel said the task force’s consortium stretches across counties in the valley and can bring engineering and watershed planning resources to Willacy County. County representatives described the MOA as a long‑overdue regional collaboration to address watershed issues across the Rio Grande Valley.

Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the MOA and funding for the regional watershed coordinator. The court’s approval allows staff to execute the agreement and proceed with the regional partnership.
