Court accepts Newton-Jasper SART report required by state law

Newton County commissioners on Nov. 13 noted and accepted the Newton-Jasper Adult Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) report mandated by 2021 state legislation.
Speaker 3 explained the SART focuses on adult sexual assault cases and includes prosecutors, law enforcement, a nurse examiner and other partners; the team coordinates regionally with Jasper County, provides at least four hours of annual training, and submits a biennial report to the state. Speaker 3 asked the court to acknowledge the report and confirm submission; Speaker 1 moved to note and accept the report and the court approved the action.
Acceptance ensures the county has met its reporting obligation and maintains interagency coordination for adult victim services; staff said they will forward the report to the state to correct prior submission timing.
