Willacy County Commissioners Court on Oct. 9 approved routine consent and administrative items on the agenda, including previous meeting minutes, monthly reports, travel requests, and the treasurer and tax-collector reports.
The court approved the treasurer’s September financial report after brief discussion about local investment options and a state-level initiative mentioned in the meeting. The tax collector presented the final tax-collection report; commissioners discussed a potential agreement to collect taxes for a local independent school district (CISD) and said they will return the agreement to the court for formal approval once the paperwork is reviewed.
Travel for county staff to professional conferences and training was approved with the understanding that most travel-related costs will be paid from the requesting office’s funds. The court also reviewed special claims and an update related to jail operations as information items.
The meeting concluded after the court voted to take no action on several legal agenda items (items involving pending litigation) because the county’s private counsel was not present, and then adjourned.
