County staff presented three grant awards: a Criminal Justice Division (CJD) domestic-violence unit grant for $74,440 (FY2026), a CJD victim-assistance and training grant for $174,724 (FY2026), and a border-protection/regional prosecutorial award (cited as HSGD/Region 3 border protection unit number 2536412) for $1,026,009.64 for FY2026–27. The DA’s staff explained the smaller CJD grants are 70/30 grants with the 30% match coming from the general fund; the large border-protection award was described as a 100% funded grant to fund prosecutors, investigators, and a paralegal.
Commissioners voted to accept the awards; staff will complete the governor’s office acceptance steps and proceed with hiring or reassigning positions funded by the grants.
Next steps: DA’s office to accept grant awards in state portals, hire approved positions, and coordinate any required local match funding with the county treasurer and budget office.
