Walker County staff says 2025 congressional map stands; consultant datasets pending

Walker County staff reported to the Commissioners Court on Dec. 1 that the 2025 congressional maps currently stand and that county officials are preparing to move forward with planning for the primary.
Diana, presenting the update, said the county submitted recommended maps on Nov. 17 and worked with outside counsel in anticipation of litigation. She told commissioners that, after an initial stay by a U.S. District Court and a subsequent state appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court indicated the 2025 maps would stand. "So, as of that following Monday, last week of Thanksgiving, we did reach out to Andy and I reached out to Scott Bounds' office again, requesting the datasets that he needs," Diana said. She said the county is waiting on datasets that will allow staff to prepare population and mileage analyses necessary for precinct-level planning and that she and Andy will continue to push the consultant to deliver the files.
Diana warned commissioners that timing is tight: the county must prepare for a mass mail-out of roughly 40,000 voter registration postcards and activities tied to early voting, and those operations could be affected as litigation proceeds. She said staff plans to return to the court with more information in two weeks.
No formal action was taken; the update was informational and focused on timeline and the need to secure data to complete redistricting-related administrative tasks.
