Willacy County accepts $210,000 in GLO shoreline-protection awards for Laguna Point and Fred Stone Park

Staff said the county was selected for a $99,000 award for the Laguna Point shoreline protection Phase 1 study and a $111,000 award for Fred Stone Park shoreline protection Phase 2. Both awards were described as matching grants with a 60/40 structure (state/local). Staff said the county’s match will be captured through local funds identified in the packet.
"We were selected" for the Laguna Point award and staff noted ongoing design and advertisement activity for other park phases, the presenter said. Commissioners voted to accept both awards and noted the benefits of protecting shoreline investments and moving to construction when appropriate.
Staff will proceed with required grant-acceptance paperwork and will document county matching funds before entering contract or construction phases.
