Blount County planning officials on Jan. 4 voted to forward a rezoning request for 4.6 acres of a 7.2-acre tract to the full county commission for further review.
"This is a request to rezone 4.6 acres of a 7.2 acre tract," staff said, identifying the property as Tax Map 100, Parcels 009 and 00901 and noting that the two parcels have since been combined and that the majority of surrounding parcels are already zoned rural arterial commercial. The request would change the property’s zoning from R-1 to RAC, staff said.
Chairman Daryl Tipton opened the public hearing and asked for public comment; no one in the room spoke. Commissioner Blessso moved to forward the rezoning to the full commission; Commissioner McClellan seconded. The motion passed; the meeting record does not list a roll-call tally.
The staff packet included a plat and a zoning map showing the portion of the tract proposed for rezoning and a notation that the requested RAC district would be consistent with recent rezoning on adjacent parcels. The full commission will now review the staff materials and the planning commission’s recommendation at a future meeting.
No speakers raised objections or asked for substantive changes during the planning-commission hearing; no formal conditions on the referral were recorded beyond the commission’s vote to forward the request.
