Beaufort County residents were advised of New Year's events and government service schedules during a local news broadcast.
Kyla Williams, the program host, said the Beaufort Area Hospitality Association will coordinate a free fireworks display on the Beaufort River at 9 PM tonight at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, sponsored by Harris Teeter. Harbour Town on Hilton Head will hold two ball drops at 7 PM and again at midnight with live music, entertainment and food.
The broadcast said Beaufort County offices will be closed Thursday, Jan. 1 for the New Year's Day holiday. Convenience centers will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 31 and remain closed Thursday, Jan. 1, resuming normal hours Friday, Jan. 2. The program reported Hilton Head Island Airport will remain open during the holiday, while Buford Executive Airport will operate on a modified schedule and offer self-serve AV gas. Emergency services and law enforcement were noted to remain on duty throughout the holiday.
Listeners were directed to event pages and the county's news page for press releases and more information. The broadcast did not provide exact start or end times for convenience center closures beyond the dates listed, and some web addresses spoken on air were garbled in the audio recording.
