Board approves NRPA workforce grant and one‑year lease extensions for DSS and VCE

Supervisors authorized acceptance of up to $20,000 in NRPA/DOL workforce-development grant funds for Parks & Recreation, approved execution of a 12‑month MOU, and authorized one‑year lease extensions (with appropriation of FY26 funds) for Department of Social Services and Virginia Cooperative Extension following notices of rent increases.
The board approved a set of administrative actions recommended by staff. Parks & Recreation Director Chris Clark said the county was selected for a U.S. Department of Labor-funded workforce-development cohort administered through the National Recreation and Park Association and that up to $20,000 in reimbursable funds are available to support programs for youth and young adults age 14–21. The board authorized acceptance of the funds, execution of a memorandum of understanding with NRPA (subject to county-attorney approval), and creation and appropriation of revenue and expense lines in the recreation activity fund.
Separately, the county administrator reported that one-year extension options are available for leases housing the Department of Social Services and the Virginia Cooperative Extension office. The landlord gave notice of a 20% rent increase that would take effect Dec. 1, 2025. The board authorized the county administrator to exercise the one-year lease extension options and appropriated the additional FY26 funding ($7,650 for DSS and $2,963 for VCE) from the general fund balance to cover the increases for the remainder of FY26.
