Board delays decision on Motorola maintenance agreement for county radio system

King George County staff briefed the Board on a proposed multiyear maintenance and system upgrade agreement with Motorola Solutions covering the shared radio network used by the sheriff, schools and emergency services. The proposal described a 6‑year, 4‑month term with a total value around $6.54 million and a limited‑time discount if executed by a specified date.
The Sheriff and supervisors questioned the price, noted Motorola’s market position and asked staff to continue negotiating. One supervisor asked to delay action until procurement and legal staff could meet with Motorola and re‑examine terms and pricing; staff agreed to return with additional negotiation results and clarifying figures at the next meeting.
No vote was taken; the Board directed staff to seek sharper pricing and report back. Staff said the existing warranty runs through February 2026 and that remaining months could be rolled into FY27 budget planning to avoid an immediate budget amendment.
