County meeting roundup: appointments, consent items, citizen comment and upcoming Windsor Hills session

At its Sept. 23 meeting the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors approved a slate of appointments and adopted the consent agenda without items removed for separate consideration. The clerk called the roll for each action and recorded affirmative votes by supervisors present.
The board also voted to receive and file six reports included under agenda item I.
During citizen comment, Dale Deweese of Bradshaw Road thanked staff and a supervisor for enforcement of illegal roadside signs and raised concern about political signs placed in VDOT right-of-way during an upcoming election period. Deweese also thanked organizers of an ALS fundraising walk at Green Hill Park and recounted the disease's impact on his family.
Supervisors provided routine reports: Miss Shepherd recounted community meetings and a hotel groundbreaking in Vinton; Supervisor North emphasized the board's support for school construction bonding and noted signage enforcement; other supervisors highlighted regional talent-attraction efforts and local art projects involving students.
Chairman Radford announced a Windsor Hills community meeting at the South County Library Auditorium on Thursday at 6 p.m. that will include presentations on housing, the county budget, economic development and transportation. The board then recessed to a work session and planned closed session on prospective business and security matters.
