Halifax County supervisors approved capital improvement distributions Tuesday that allocate $25,000 each to four volunteer fire departments.
Staff reported the committee met Sept. 12 and unanimously recommended awarding the annual allocation to four departments: Halifax Fire Department (Station 2), Oak Level (Station 11), Midway (Station 12) and Triangle (Station 14). "The motion was made by Mr. Martin, seconded by Chief Wade, to recommend approving capital improvement funding in the amount of 25,000 to each of the fire departments," staff said.
Supervisors discussed whether the funds generally are tied to specific projects; staff and board members said the allocations are distributed on a rotational basis and historically are at the departments' discretion, though supervisors asked for project reporting and suggested budgeting for larger transport or EMS needs in future budget cycles. The board approved the recommendation on a voice vote.
