Halifax County supervisors on Tuesday approved a rezoning request for 1190 Loftus Road, changing the parcel from A‑1 to R‑2 to permit conversion of an existing garage into four one‑bedroom rental units.
Planning staff introduced the application and said the county’s comprehensive plan encourages additional housing. Staff also noted that county septic inspection completed by Bill White supports four bedrooms for the proposed conversion. "We made her go check with our separate system to make sure the current system will support for 4 bedrooms," staff reported during the hearing.
Applicant Linda Cole addressed the boards and described buying the property at a tax sale and her plan to divide the existing garage, add a door and window for ingress/egress, and engage licensed plumbers and electricians for required work. Cole asked the boards to approve the rezoning so she can proceed with the conversion.
No speakers were recorded in opposition during the public hearing. After a short deliberation and site‑visit review, a motion to approve the rezoning was made and carried by voice vote. The public record shows the motion was approved with 'Aye' votes; no roll‑call tally is recorded in the transcript.
What’s next: Rezoning approval allows the applicant to move forward with permitting and required inspections for building and utility work. Any required building permits and health‑department approvals must be obtained before occupancy.
