County announces SKIP jail therapist, pending 911 grant and $8,000 kin-caregiver award

St. Croix County Health & Human Services staff reported several grants and community-service announcements on Dec. 17.
Staff said the county received a state SKIP grant (State Crisis Intervention Program) that funds a mental-health therapist assigned to the jail. The therapist has completed onboarding and shadowing, and staff expect she will begin seeing clients in the jail in early 2026, initially about three to five people per week; the program uses a jail screening and referral process to identify eligible participants who meet criteria such as serious mental illness or serious and persistent needs.
A separate federal grant application to station a crisis worker in the 911 center remained pending at the time of the meeting. Children's Services received an $8,000 'Like Kin Caregiver' grant intended to provide supplies, sporting gear and other supports for children living with kin caregivers.
The board also heard a local award mention and a reminder that a Ruby's Pantry pop-up is scheduled in New Richmond on Dec. 18 from 4:30–7 p.m.
