The Smyth County Board of Supervisors on Monday approved Budget Amendment No. 3, which the budget committee recommended to the full board. Unidentified Speaker 2 told the board the amendment consolidates several grants and other state funds totaling $397,717.
“Following discussion, the amount was $397,717,” Unidentified Speaker 2 said. The package described by staff included a grant from the Appalachian Powers Foundation for public-safety departments, a grant to the commonwealth’s attorney to support the Bridal program and related state funds, CVG funds for Hurricane Helene recovery work, and a grant described as for the sheriff’s office.
Mr. Weiner moved to recommend that the board accept Budget Amendment No. 3; Mr. Sturgill seconded the motion. The board approved the committee recommendation by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
Board members did not request additional amendments to the package during the floor vote. The action funds immediate recovery and departmental needs described in the committee materials and directs staff to implement the award and reporting steps required by each grant program.
