Saratoga County creates Animal Crimes and Mental Health task forces; board donates $2,000 to veterans housing coalition

At its Dec. 16 meeting the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors announced the formal creation of two task forces: an Animal Crimes Task Force and a Mental Health Task Force.
The chair read membership lists for both groups and said they have already been meeting. The Animal Crimes Task Force will include county supervisors, members of the district attorney’s office and multiple sheriff’s office staff; the Mental Health Task Force will include supervisors, sheriff’s office members, representatives from the district attorney’s office and an Office of Court Administration (OCA) representative to be named.
The board also honored veteran Paul O'Keefe, who delivered the invocation. The chair commended O'Keefe’s long service in veteran ceremonies and told the room, "You are the definition of a true patriot and a true gentleman," during the recognition.
The board presented a $2,000 donation, approved on behalf of the county veterans’ trust fund, to Marion Eck of the Veterans Community Housing Coalition. Eck accepted the check and thanked the county for the support, saying the funds are especially appreciated during the holiday season.
Why it matters The task forces formalize cross-agency work: the Animal Crimes Task Force will coordinate animal-abuse registry follow-up and enforcement discussions; the Mental Health Task Force is intended to coordinate county mental health responses and involve criminal justice partners. The veterans donation supports local nonprofit efforts to assist veterans with housing needs.
