The Allegany County Public Safety Committee on Dec. 10 approved a memorandum of understanding to partner with GB School and Alfred State College to offer an emergency medical technician course supported by an Appalachian Regional Commission grant. The committee said the county will not provide cash but will manage the program through its OEM office and provide a 5% in‑kind wage match.
At a special meeting called by Chairman Stephen Havey, a presenter described the program as a short, high‑value course for local EMT training. “The course will be up to 12 students, and the materials for the course will be the responsibility of the grant,” the presenter said. The presenter added that durable equipment donated under the grant would transfer to the county for use in other classes.
Committee members asked clarifying questions about the match and timing. The presenter said the in‑kind match equates to roughly 5% of sponsor wages and that there is no monetary county contribution required. The presenter said the course is expected to run from Jan. 1 through May 2026.
Supporters characterized the package as strong value for the county given the donated equipment and grant‑funded materials. The committee approved the MOU by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will finalize the program details so classes and materials can be scheduled and procured under the grant terms.
