The Warren County Board of Supervisors used part of its meeting to recognize five supervisors and long-serving staff members who are retiring at year-end. Officials praised years of public service, conservation work and steady fiscal stewardship.
Chair introduced David "Dave," who served in soil and water conservation and later as executive director of the Lake George Park Commission, and thanked him for his work on invasive-species prevention and park stewardship. Senator Daniel Steff, who addressed the board, said he had “great privilege to serve with” many of the retirees and praised the county’s fiscal position and staff. Assemblyman Matt Simpson also offered congratulations and commended the supervisors’ institutional knowledge.
The board presented a proclamation marking 100 years for the local health department; Dan Durfee accepted the proclamation on behalf of Janelle Jones, who had a family emergency and could not attend. Chair and colleagues read short biographies and personal anecdotes for the retiring supervisors, naming Kevin (absent due to illness), Mike (noted for public-safety experience), Brad (service and county projects), Frank Thomas (longtime budget officer) and Gene Merlino.
Speakers repeatedly framed the retirements as a transition: they emphasized gratitude for institutional knowledge and urged continuity as new members assume office. The board opened the announced public hearing on Local Law No. 1 later in the agenda and then moved to other business.
