Residents press county on reduced parking, ADA access and public amenities for new government center

Multiple on‑site and Zoom commenters asked how the project will provide visitor parking, where employees will park, and how small transit providers such as Gadabout would drop off riders. Designer (speaker 5) acknowledged a reduction in total parking spaces compared with the current site and said the plan includes a flexible use area that could serve drop‑offs and special events; she added that “there will be reduced parking, as compared to what's currently exists on‑site.”
Unidentified Host (speaker 1) and county representatives said the county currently does not provide dedicated visitor parking at its offices and that they will “have a conversation with the city” to explore short‑term visitor parking and use of nearby lots such as the 400 North Tioga lot.
Residents also urged that arrival and waiting accommodations clearly serve people using walkers, wheelchairs and older adults; one Zoom participant said seating for people with mobility aids should be “highly visible and in proximity to where people might have to stand and wait in line.” The project team agreed to coordinate ADA parking and drop‑off locations with the city and county facilities staff.
Several commenters asked whether the project could or should include public water spigots and restrooms in DeWitt Park; presenters noted the county does not own the park and said coordination with the park owner and the city would be required to add infrastructure and maintenance commitments.
County staff said they will refine parking allocations and coordinate with the city, and they encouraged residents to submit specific concerns via the project survey and contact points provided at the meeting.
