Hudson County tweaks ARPA awards to boost food-distribution partnerships

Hudson County staff told commissioners on Oct. 23 that replacements to agenda items 17 and 19 will reallocate American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds awarded through Health and Human Services to better support food-security initiatives.
For item 17, staff said Hunger for Unity in the Community had originally been slated for a $100,000 reduction at the agency’s request; after further discussions and planned collaborations, the county will instead reduce that award by $34,000 so the agency can retain more funds for additional food distributions. For the other replacement (item 19), the SALT Foundation requested and will receive additional funding to expand distribution sites; staff said unallocated ARPA funds permit the change.
Administrators said the adjustments are intended to increase distribution sites and encourage collaboration between providers, including Hunger for Unity in the Community and the Coalition for Food and Health Equity. Staff said schedules for additional distributions will be shared with family services and made available to commissioners.
The board recorded these changes as replacements on the meeting agenda and discussed them during the staff presentation.
