Saint George Theater seeks audio upgrade and advances rooftop capital project

Doreen, president and CEO of Saint George Theater Restoration Inc., updated the Richmond County borough board on two ongoing capital priorities: an immediate audio‑system upgrade and a multi‑year rooftop and facade restoration.

The theater has operated with a 17‑year‑old audio system and currently rents equipment for many headline acts. Doreen said a new system including speakers, amplifiers, monitors and digital mixing boards is "estimated at $1,400,000," and she described the upgrade as necessary to avoid repeated rental costs and to meet industry standards.

Separately, the theater reported having secured $7,600,000 for a rooftop capital project that began procurement in 2024; Doreen said the roof and facade work is managed by outside engineers and architects and is targeted for completion in early 2027. The theater emphasized that capital support from the borough president's office and local council members has been critical to progress.

Board members thanked the theater representatives and contrasted capital and expense asks; the theater clarified this year’s request was for operating expenses rather than new capital funding. No formal board vote or appropriation occurred at the meeting; theater staff were asked to keep the borough and council delegation updated on procurement milestones.

The theater’s presentation underscores two near‑term items for elected offices and the borough: (1) whether to support operating expense needs tied to the project cycle and (2) continued oversight of a multi‑year capital project with significant secured funding.
