Hudson County commissioners approve transfer resolution and five ordinances, including $76 million school financing

Hudson County commissioners on Nov. 25 approved a replacement transfer resolution to move $70,000 to roads and bridges for inclement weather, $30,000 to the office of traffic signals and signs for equipment, and $30,000 to cover school bus transportation services, and they adopted five ordinances during a routine meeting.
The board voted to adopt ordinances ranging from stop-sign installations on county roadways in Hoboken (A1) to administrative-code changes that move the county Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to the sheriff's office (A2). Commissioners also approved a restricted parking space on Willow Avenue in Hoboken (A3) and traffic-calming devices on County Avenue in Secaucus (A4). All four were closed to public comment with no substantive opposition recorded and passed by roll call.
The most significant vote concerned ordinance A5, a lease and development agreement with the Hudson County Improvement Authority for the Liberty Science Center High School project. The ordinance authorizes financing via county-secured lease revenue bonds for a project with an estimated cost not to exceed $76,000,000. Commissioners asked a schools representative about capacity and were told the facility is expected to accommodate approximately 400 students.
Commissioners also corrected the term dates on a previously posted resolution to reflect the fiscal year 01/01/2026 to 12/31/2026 and approved an amendment to the replacement transfer resolution during the meeting. The board noted that notices and required advertisements for public hearings had been posted in advance.
The meeting concluded with commissioners asking staff for follow-up items, including a report on early voting locations and a request that sheriff reports related to federal agency activity at county property be forwarded to the public safety committee.
