Hudson County outlines $11.74 million in open-space grants for 2025 funding cycle

The clerk read a detailed list of recommended grants and projects funded under the proposal, including: $750,000 for Bayonnes 16th Street miniature golf course improvements; $250,000 for Bayonnes West 24th Street playground; $750,000 for the Jersey City Board of Educations Caven Point turf-field replacement; $750,000 for the Bayfront Promenade Park phase 2; multiple $750,000 awards to municipalities (Kearny, North Bergen, Union City, Weehawken) and county park projects (Lincoln Park track upgrades, Spray Park rehabilitation). The clerk said anticipated commencement of projects is on or about Aug. 14, 2025, with completion by about Aug. 13, 2027.
A Bayonne resident, Myso Dem, spoke in favor of further integrating open space and multimodal planning into Bayonnes traffic grid and asked the county to consider outreach and focus groups to coordinate bike-lane plans and open-space access. Commissioners later urged caution on advancing bike-lane work on certain Hoboken streets until additional discussion with stakeholders.
The board held the hearing, took public comment and recorded the proposed allocations in its agenda materials for further action.
