Commissioners approve Epic Insurance renewal after broker outlines coverage and savings

Brian Hancock of Epic Insurance Midwest briefed the Warrick County commissioners on the county’s 2026 property and casualty renewal, reviewing asset valuations, deductible structure and coverage limits.

Hancock said the county’s blanket building and personal-property schedule shows roughly $96.3 million in allocated assets and highlighted an earthquake deductible structure that results in a stacked $25 million limit when combined with excess layers. He walked commissioners through flood and wind/hail deductibles, drone coverage, crime coverage and an elevated public-officials liability layer intended to address open claims.

Hancock also highlighted a workers-compensation outcome: by leveraging the county’s claims and exposure data, Epic reduced the county’s effective workers-comp premium — saving roughly $200,000 relative to the manual-rate calculation.

"We were quite thrilled about this, and I think this speaks to our ability to leverage on your behalf," Hancock said, summarizing the result. He recommended continued asset-data review to ensure proper allocation and said the team would pursue strategies next year to move law-enforcement liability back under the primary carrier as new jail SOPs are finalized.

After the presentation, commissioners moved and seconded a motion to approve the renewal with Epic Insurance for 2026. The motion carried on a voice vote recorded as multiple "Aye" responses.
