County officials authorized staff to contact a law firm to evaluate whether Ohio County should join a national pharmaceutical class-action settlement related to insulin pricing.
Attorney-related information presented to the board said that some pharmaceutical settlements require governmental entities to be represented by an appointed law firm in order to participate. The presenter said, "With these defendants, you must be represented by a law firm appointed in these cases," and named Cedar Weisz as a firm that is taking governmental clients for evaluation.
The presenter said Cedar Weisz would independently evaluate whether Ohio County has a sufficient claim and that the firms evaluation would not charge the county. Commissioners asked whether any evaluation fees would be required; the presenter replied the evaluation is no-cost and that the firm would determine whether the county's claim merits representation.
The board moved and agreed to authorize staff to contact Cedar Weisz for an evaluation to determine whether Ohio County should participate in the settlement process. The decision directs staff to provide any follow-up materials Cedar Weisz requests and to report the firms findings back to the board before any commitment to join the lawsuit.
