Judge Spitzer told the board the courts had "run out of money to pay them and feed them," and requested a $15,000 additional appropriation to the juror per‑diem account and a $499 transfer from contractual services to meals to cover juror payments and meals after heavy jury trials. The board moved, seconded and approved the request by voice vote.
Public works and highway staff asked the commission to approve multiple transfers to keep year‑end accounts from closing in the red and added a $100,000 transfer from a restricted "chip sale" account to the equipment fund to pay for equipment purchased before year‑end; commissioners approved all highway transfers together.
County staff announced the county had been awarded $850,000 from the Indiana Community Crossing grant program for two bridge projects — one on 1100 South and one on 700 South — and said local match and design work are already in place.
Other approved requests included a $4,100 additional appropriation to the recorder's part‑time account, transfers and small appropriations across planning and EMS budgets, and expenditure requests from Veterans Affairs for two tablets, conference chairs and a conference‑room camera to support bedside claims filing and teleconferencing.
The commission also approved two library board appointments after agreeing to suspend the usual advertising practice for one of the openings; the suspension motion was made and carried before the appointment was approved. Commissioners set the first meeting date of 2026 for Jan. 21.
No contested roll‑call votes or recorded individual tallies were entered in the record; motions were carried by voice vote.
What happens next: several of the transfers are administrative year‑end actions and will be reflected in the auditor's year‑end accounting; the two bridge projects funded by the Community Crossing grant move into final design and procurement phases under existing county procedures.
