Randy Fox, representing the airport, updated the DeKalb County Council on Dec. 10, reporting that geotechnical investigations on roughly 70 acres south and west of the airport found soils suitable for construction and that the area is available for low‑impact industrial development.
"The geotech report is back and the area is available and ready for construction," Fox told the council. He said the taxiway is completed and extends the full 7,000 feet of the runway, eliminating the need for back‑taxi operations. Fox also described updates to the airport's snow and ice control plan and said the county has purchased de‑icing materials; he estimated an application for the full runway at roughly $3,000.
Fox said the airport has increased Jet A fuel capacity to 24,000 gallons, which improves its ability to service transient jet traffic, and that hangar construction and runway resurfacing are anticipated as future steps (resurfacing of the original 5,000‑foot section is expected in 2027).
