The Crawford County Council on Oct. 14 approved a slate of 2026 budgets for county departments and fire districts and voted to correct accounting errors tied to donations for the county fairgrounds.
Council members adopted the countywide 2026 budget of about $13,365,371, including a $24,000 overlay, and approved separate adopted budgets for English Fire ($292,600), Whiskey Run Fire ($131,500), Leavenworth Fire ($243,050) and the county solid waste budget ($566,005.06), among others. Motions to adopt each budget were made, seconded and carried during the meeting.
A more contentious discussion focused on donations that had been deposited to the countyheld 12/19 revenue line and subsequently reflected as decreased cash because operating expenses had been charged against the same cash account. Council and staff agreed staff must correct the posting. County staff identified a correction transfer of $6,654.39 to bring the 12/19 fund to a zero balance and the council voted to take that amount from the general fund to restore the donation revenue line.
Council also approved a motion to reallocate the department directorsalary that had been charged to the 12/19 account into the county general fund for the remainder of the year, and separately moved $3,000 from the general fund back into the 12/19 donations revenue line so the arena manager would have funds available for near-term needs.
Several smaller transfers to cover EMS lines (including professional services, overtime and supplies), probation program adjustments, and capital project disbursements were approved as read by staff.
The meeting ended with a motion to allocate $30,000 from the general fund for a pickup truck identified as needed for a department head; the motion was seconded and carried.
