Supporters said electronic card readers would let staff log required 30-minute checks electronically rather than by hand and could provide a safer, more auditable record. Speakers emphasized these are planning-stage estimates and that no procurement decision was requested at this meeting.
The board said it would seek updated quotes and include the sheriff and county IT staff as technical reviewers in future procurement discussions. No formal vote on procurement was taken; staff were asked to return with additional details and pricing.
