The Fayette County Commission approved a series of personnel and public-safety steps on Tuesday, including a consultancy review of the county's 9-1-1 dispatch operations, reinstatement of the Emergency Management Agency's volunteer roster, and hiring approvals in the community corrections program.
Jeff Griffin, representing 9-1-1 dispatch, described an addressing-system rollout (effective Oct. 15), proposed Ritter Strategies perform a strategic review and help recruit a director (estimated cost discussed at about $7,200), and asked to schedule a meeting with commissioners. The commission approved a motion to meet with Ritter, with commissioners noting personnel aspects would be handled in an executive session if appropriate.
Griffin also summarized recent operational changes: disaster-call protocols, headset and training upgrades using Motorola's online LXP platform, and ongoing troubleshooting of a radio/phone transmission issue involving ECS and the digital phone vendor. He provided October call statistics: 1,587 total calls for service, 1,077 9-1-1 calls; department run totals included CPD 792, sheriff's department 496 and EMS 312.
EMA Director Wade told commissioners he submitted ADA documentation to NDOT and requested reinstatement of EMA volunteers; the commission approved reinstating the volunteer group and asked for background checks and candidate summaries in advance. Earlier in the meeting, the commission approved hiring Wayne (William) Reed full time and Danny Floyd Jr. part time for community corrections; staff said those positions are funded from program and grant income rather than the county general fund.
The commission also approved a one-year extension for a large-format printer service contract for the assessor's office pending county attorney approval.
