County to accept $61,559 INDOT pass‑through funds for rural transit; rural transit agreement approved

Jim Johnson, who represents the Council on Aging, told commissioners the county will receive $61,559 from the Indiana Department of Transportation as a federal pass‑through payment for quarter 3 and asked the board to sign the necessary documents.
"Again, does not come out of Whitley County coffers. It comes from the the feds," Johnson said, explaining the funds are federal pass‑through funds that will be administered locally. He also reported operations metrics, saying the county averages more than 100 trips per day and is on track to travel more than 200,000 miles in Whitley County this year.
A motion to approve the Section 53.11 rural transit agreement — described in the meeting as the rural transit agreement between the county commissioners/county transit — passed by voice vote. Commissioners and staff noted the agreement is the routine instrument used to accept and administer INDOT transit funding.
Johnson invited commissioners to visit the transit operation and indicated advertising will begin on county buses to support the program.
