Board sets Deeds Creek stakeholder meeting; Sellers Lake dredge and Parker Street interchange discussed

Kosciusko County staff announced a stakeholders meeting to coordinate Deeds Creek maintenance and to review a study funded by the Pike Lake Association that identified erosion and sediment issues along the creek.
Speaker 1 said the meeting will gather property owners, the City of Warsaw, Parkview Hospital and other parties to discuss removing trees, addressing deep scour and improving erosion control on Deeds Creek from U.S. 30 to Husky Trail. "This is Deeds Creek from US 30 to Husky Trail here in Northeast Side of town," Speaker 1 said, adding that sediment from the reach flows to Pike Lake.
DNR permitting and Sellers Lake: Speaker 1 reported recent DNR site visits and comments on three permits. The board plans to bid a dredging/maintenance contract affecting Sellers Lake after staff completes responses to DNR comments; the work is intended to restore the outlet and reduce local flooding. "The state people were all very supportive... there's just some wetlands to work around and, we'll mitigate all that and I want to get started this summer," Speaker 1 said.
Regional planning: staff also described meetings with the state Department of Transportation about a proposal to improve the Parker Street intersection and potentially add a Spring Hill interchange. Speaker 1 said the corridor sees roughly "16,000 cars a day that cross Parker Street" and urged planning now to avoid constraining future drainage and trail opportunities. The board discussed the possibility of bicycle and pedestrian connections alongside future roadwork.
The board invited members to the Deeds Creek meeting and said staff will continue to coordinate with stakeholders and state agencies to sequence drainage work ahead of anticipated development.
