Board approves resolution allowing South Lyon County Hospital District to seek interim financing for new clinic

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution Dec. 4 authorizing the South Lyon County Hospital District to proceed with interim construction financing and a medium‑term obligation in a maximum principal amount of $2,800,000 to help fund a new primary‑care clinic in Maryton. The district expects to borrow roughly $2,715,000 in permanent financing through USDA programs to replace an aging modular clinic that has been in place since 1998.

Ryan Henry, counsel for the hospital district, described the authorization as a standard legal step required for borrowing by a county hospital district. Toni, the hospital administrator, said the modular clinic’s HVAC and structural systems are failing and that a permanent, code‑compliant facility will improve patient privacy, provider recruitment and the clinic’s integration with telehealth services.

The hospital district reported a significant philanthropic contribution: the Kinneken Foundation has offered $2,500,000 toward the project and the district has budgeted $500,000. Community speakers, including Leah Wilkinson and the Yerington/Mason Valley chamber president Micah Triplett, spoke in support, saying the clinic would stabilize services and preserve jobs. The Board approved the resolution unanimously.

Next steps: the district will pursue approvals from the Lyon County Debt Management Commission and the Nevada Department of Taxation, then finalize construction and permanent financing arrangements.
