Walker County reported several community updates, including a placemaking award for Walker Rocks Park, a pet-adoption fee relief program supported by the BISSELL Pet Foundation, recent tire-amnesty collection totals and holiday service dates.
The Greater Chattanooga Realtors awarded Walker County its 2026 placemaking project to fund a protective fence around the Walker Rocks Park playground on the Walker County Civic Center Campus in Rock Spring. County communications said the fence will provide a containment zone intended to help children with special needs; the playground was designated a PlayCore national demonstration site for inclusive play in 2024.
The Walker County Bridal Shelter is partnering with the BISSELL Pet Foundation to waive adoption fees for adult dogs and cats and to offer $25 adoption fees for puppies and kittens through December 15, the broadcast said. The free and reduced adoption fees are funded by BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsorship.
The county held a Retire Your Tires amnesty day that collected 3,100 tires at the landfill while Rossville collected 255 tires, for a combined total of 3,355 tires.
On government services, the broadcast said Walker County government offices will be closed on a December date not specified in the transcript and again on January 1; the tax commissioner's office will be closed on December 26. The county also offered free disposal of live cut Christmas trees at the landfill on December 30.
