Ware County staff outline airport tree removal and runway design projects, federal funds to cover most costs

Staff warned commissioners that failure to comply with Federal Aviation Administration/DOT requirements could jeopardize federal and state funding.
Staff also described Work Order 25‑25‑12 for design of Runway 11/19 rehabilitation with a professional‑services total of $137,516. Staff said the federal government would pay 95% of the design cost, the Georgia Department of Transportation would pay 2.5% and Ware County would be responsible for 2.5% of the design costs, reducing the county’s direct financial burden for that phase. Staff said design and subsequent construction phases would follow standard federal/state/local cost‑share rules and that timely action on tree mitigation was important to retain federal funding.
Commissioners discussed the items and elected to carry the work orders forward to the regular meeting for formal action and to ensure compliance with DOT/FAA requirements.
