Forsyth County outlines timeline for Barker Overlook, Bennett Park ribbon cutting and Sharon Springs work

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation provided updates on several park construction projects and public engagement plans during an On the Move segment.
Director Kirk Franz said the Barker Overlook project is expected to kick off toward the end of this year and described it as a combined landscape and hardscape project intended as a hike‑in destination with scenic views near Sawnee Mountain.
On Bennett Park, Franz said contractors are finishing a complete renovation and he anticipates a ribbon cutting in the first quarter of next year. "I would anticipate that by the early quarter first quarter of next year that we should be ribbon cutting," he said.
For Sharon Springs Park Franz said design is finished, several bids are under review, and the county expects to announce a contract in the coming month. He said the park will close for construction, but the tag office located there will remain open during the work to preserve that service for residents.
Franz and host Russell Brown also highlighted an upcoming countywide parks comprehensive plan public engagement effort. The county will launch an interactive survey later in November and hold public input meetings early next year to gather resident priorities for future parks and recreation investments.
Franz encouraged residents to consult the Parks web page for updates, interactive maps and construction notices as these projects move from procurement to construction.
