The Macon-Bibb County Commission advanced a broad consent agenda on Dec. 16 that included appropriations, grant acceptances, park repairs and consulting contracts.
Notable items sent to the consent agenda included:
- A $50,000 ordinance to purchase and install audible pedestrian signal devices for public safety (motion carried unanimously).
- Appropriation of $29,254,596 from a 2025 bond to fund projects including the jail expansion, arena project, recreation projects and industrial authority and urban development authority allocations.
- Year-end general fund adjustments to $242,000,375.11 in revenues and matching expenditures to balance the 2025 budget.
- A supplemental appropriation of $62,252,626 to cover outstanding purchase orders rolled into the 2026 budget.
- A change order and appropriation for additional engineering ($139,750) and grant funding ($82,934) for the O'Muggety Heritage Trail project.
- A $202,075 agreement with Stafford Builders and Consultants to renovate Courtroom No. 3 at the Thomas Jackson Juvenile Justice Center (to become a multipurpose room for training and hearings).
- Acceptance of grants including a $40,635 Macon Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation grant for patrol equipment and a $211,425.74 Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant to support a PAWS pedestrian-awareness program administered by the district attorney’s office.
- A $56,499 professional-services agreement with Payscale Inc. to review and update county job descriptions and provide a pay study; mayor clarified police and fire pay scales are a separate, larger conversation.
All listed consent items were moved, seconded and carried as published with the commission voting to advance items A–U (except for item L, which was pulled for separate discussion and subsequently voted on). Mayor Miller said staff will provide itemized documentation and resource guides where requested.
The commission also took time during the meeting for community recognitions, including a proclamation honoring George McCandless on his retirement as CEO of United Way of Central Georgia and a certificate presentation to youth AAU football champions.
