Committee accepts $750 tax-deed bid for New Richmond property

The St. Croix County administration committee voted to accept a $750 tax-deed bid on a county-owned parcel in the city of New Richmond. County staff said the parcel had been listed for sale with an initial value set at $750 and that the county received a matching bid.
Supervisor Counter reported he followed up with New Richmond officials and that city staff had not taken action or objected since the item was tabled at the prior meeting. “They haven't tried to contact. They haven't been able to do anything with it,” Counter said of the city clerk's response.
County staff reminded the committee the parcel is sold “as is” and that it is the purchaser’s responsibility to investigate permitted uses and restrictions. Supervisor Long asked whether the purchaser was an adjacent landowner; county staff said the buyer is not an adjacent owner.
Counter moved to accept the tax-deed bid and Long seconded the motion. The chair called for a voice vote and the motion was approved unanimously.
The committee took no further actions tied to conditions or contingencies; the sale proceeds and any subsequent title or land-use questions will follow the county's standard post-sale process.
