The Brown County Commission on Monday approved transferring a retail on-sale liquor license for Bernie Farmers Bar and Grill from Roderick Hanson to Doug and Vicky Stangi. County staff read a statutory notice of the application under South Dakota Codified Law 35-2-5 and the commission held a public hearing; no members of the public addressed the board on the item and the transfer was approved.
A county staff member read the notice aloud, saying, “Notice is hereby given according to South Dakota codified law 35-2-5, a public hearing on the transfer of a retail on-sale liquor license is set for the November 2025,” and described the applicant and property details, including the business name and legal description in Brown County. The application would move the license from Roderick Hanson, doing business as Bernie Farmers Bar and Grill at 103 Center Street in Bernie, to Doug and Vicky Stangi of Groton.
Commissioner Weese moved to approve the transfer; Commissioner Dinger seconded the motion. The commission voted in favor with verbal 'ayes' and the chair announced the motion carried. The commission did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript of the meeting.
The county published the statutory notice and held the hearing as required by state law before approving the license transfer. No further conditions or contingencies were recorded in the public transcript of the meeting.
