Commissioners demand review after ambulance call was delayed by misrouted dispatch
Summary
A Sept. 11 public report described a case where a caller was told to call another jurisdiction and it took multiple calls to get an ambulance; commissioners requested call logs, the 911 recording and a joint meeting with the 911 coordinator and sheriff to investigate and prevent recurrence.

During public-business time a commissioner raised a serious emergency-response concern: an elderly resident’s ambulance request allegedly was routed incorrectly, with the caller told to contact another jurisdiction and it required multiple calls to obtain an ambulance. Several commissioners described this as an administrative failure rather than first-responder error and called for immediate investigation.
Commissioners asked county staff to obtain the date/time of the 911 call, retrieve call logs and the recorded dispatch audio, and schedule a meeting with the county 911 coordinator, the sheriff and the county state's attorney to review what happened. One commissioner asked that the recording be played at the follow-up meeting. The board agreed it must be a top priority and directed staff to pursue the evidence and convene the meeting promptly.
No final findings were reached at the meeting; commissioners described the next steps as a fact-finding meeting and potential follow-up actions based on the investigation.
The meeting record shows the commissioners’ concern was elevated (multiple commissioners insisted on immediate attention) and that staff committed to retrieving logs and scheduling the meeting with 911 oversight and law-enforcement stakeholders.
