Granville County Education Foundation and civic interns honored; foundation details grants and programs

The Granville County Board of Commissioners recognized the work of the Granville County Education Foundation and the county’s Summer Civic Leadership interns.
Caroline Burnett, president of the Granville County Education Foundation and an elected district court judge, told the board the foundation is a 501(c)(3) that awards grants to enhance student performance across traditional and charter schools. Burnett said the foundation dispenses about $100,000 per year in four grant categories — Leila Eaton creative teaching, success through technology, experience grants, and visual arts/performance — with three application cycles (September, November and January). "Last year, we awarded 62 grants in the amount of $88,177.01," she said, and described fundraising events that help sustain the program.
The board also recognized six interns who completed the county’s summer civic internship program. Interns summarized their placements at Cooperative Extension, animal control, 9‑1‑1 dispatch, emergency management, library services, tax administration and other departments and noted skills developed in public service, communication and administration. The chair presented certificates of appreciation and commended the interns for their poise and contributions.
The board applauded the foundation and interns and encouraged continued support for youth engagement and foundation grants that support classroom enrichment and teacher‑led projects.
