On Lake Myra County Park near Wendell, Jackson said the board approved a schematic design in June for the 300-acre property and that the park is expected to open in 2027 with amenities including a fishing pier, boating access, trails, picnic shelters, playgrounds and a disc golf course. Renovations are also underway at Harris Lake County Park and Blue Jay Point County Park to improve visitor experiences.
Jackson said the county is drafting a comprehensive master plan to guide additions to the parks and preserves network, and cited resident survey feedback showing strong support for preserving open space.
