Currituck commissioners codify parks board, approve surplus vehicles and direct staff on flags

Parks & Recreation advisory board: Staff said the county already operates a seven‑member Parks & Recreation advisory board created by resolution and proposed codifying it in the county code without changing membership or duties. The board approved the ordinance by voice vote.
Surplus conveyance to schools: Pursuant to NCGS 168‑274, the board approved a resolution to surplus two Parks & Recreation utility vehicles and convey them to Currituck County Schools. Commissioners said the vehicles will help school athletic trainers and field crews and that the schools’ Moyock and other campuses will be recipients.
Flags on county property: Commissioner Rose raised installing flags and lighting at government complexes, specifically the roundabout near the YMCA. Staff provided an inventory of existing flagpoles and estimated $8,000–$10,000 per turnkey installation (pole, concrete, possible electrical/light). The board asked staff to return with a feasibility and cost report proposing locations and whether to fly the U.S., North Carolina and Currituck County flags.
Consent agenda and reports: The board approved the consent agenda by voice vote. Commissioners gave short reports on community events, workforce and airport updates. The chair then called a motion to enter closed session pursuant to NCGS 143‑318.11 to discuss personnel matters; the motion passed by voice vote and the public meeting recessed.
The meeting minutes and staff follow‑ups will record the ordinances and resolution; staff will report back on flagpole feasibility and provide guidance to planning staff on next steps following the Millstone Crossing denial.
