County approves application for industrial‑park roadway and utility expansion grant

Beaufort County commissioners voted Oct. 28 to approve submitting a full application to the North Carolina Department of Commerce Industrial Development Fund (IDF) for the Washington‑Beaufort County Industrial Park roadway and utility expansion, a project staff calls 'Project Passage.'
Economic development staff said the project would unlock approximately 35 acres for industrial development and requested acceptance of an IDF grant award of $1,254,675 with a required local match of 25 percent. Staff estimated the county's half of the 25 percent local match at $230,024, to be paid from ARPA funds, with the City of Washington expected to contribute the remainder under an interlocal understanding; the project fund would be administered by the county with state reimbursement flow through the county.
The board moved, seconded and approved the application submission, the resolution and associated project ordinance in a single motion.
