County announces 11‑week Citizens Academy to recruit and educate future public‑service participants

Beaufort County staff announced an 11‑week Citizens Academy designed to give residents an in‑depth look at county government operations and to encourage future public‑service participation.
Keegan, identified as the county's strategic projects coordinator, said the program runs Thursdays, 5:30–7:30 p.m., from Jan. 23 through Apr. 10. Prospective participants must attend at least eight of the 11 sessions, including the final Board of Commissioners meeting, to graduate. Applications open Nov. 5 and close Jan. 2; notices of acceptance will be sent Jan. 9. The participation fee is $50, with financial waivers available on request.
Keegan said the academy will allow residents to meet department heads and municipal leaders and learn how county departments operate and coordinate. Commissioners welcomed the program and asked a few clarifying questions about format and partners.
